Laurent Fickelson is a pianist and composer born in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
Fickelson encountered jazz at the age of 22 through two records—one by John Coltrane and the other by Miles Davis's Second Quintet—which changed his life.
The teenager who once dreamed of being a rocker, and the child violinist who frequented Salle Pleyel, gave way to this music with its vital energy, urgency, and freedom of expression.

At 15, he became the youngest student ever admitted to the prestigious Rhythmic Music Conservatory of Copenhagen.
At 18, he interrupted his studies and moved to New York to learn "the old way"—by playing in jam sessions and clubs, essential stops for any musician settling in the jazz Mecca.
